Objectives of the project: Atlas aims at identifying and mapping the typologies of business models adopted by firms in the organic food sector. The research design is a qualitative, multiple comparative analysis of relevant cases in different organic value chains. Clearly, the project aims at contributing to the international scientific debate on business models, with particular attention to medium-tech and low-tech industries. Moreover, the analysis is intended to allow the research team to systematize different business model “clusters” to:

  1. Provide firms in the market for organic food with guidelines and blueprints to develop and transform their business models. In particular, the project aims at providing firms with different roadmaps that might be used as reference models for firms with different characteristics, operating in different value chains, with different roles in supply chains;
  2. Provide a vision of the different strategic paths available to nascent and developing firms in the organic segment of the agri-food industry to consolidate their development trajectories, to define distinctive strategies and and to be aware of the relevant strategic levers enabling their growth.
